Chard Development breaks ground on the Duet
February 7, 2013
Chard Development broke ground on Duet, a two-building residential development located at 640 Michigan Street in Victoria’s James Bay neighbourhood. The 90-unit project, designed by local architecture firm, de Hoog and Kierulf Architects and Vancouver’s Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership, is already 30 per cent sold. Both buildings are scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2014.
Chard Development took the existing neighborhood and residents into consideration during the planning and design of the project engaging the James Bay Neighbourhood Association and the City of Victoria every step of the way. Replacing a street level parking lot, Duet will contribute an aesthetic presence now missing. It’s a unique option for buyers as it sits on the edge of downtown but offers a suburban lifestyle with Beacon Hill Park, grocery stores, schools and restaurants within walking distance.

City of Victoria Mayor, Dean Fortin was also present for the groundbreaking and even took control of the excavator to dig the shovel.
“Chard Development has made significant investment in our city, with buildings that are unique and meet the needs of our growing and diverse population. I want to congratulate Chard on their new project in James Bay. Duet will be an important part of this wonderful neighbourhood, adding to its vitality and charm," said Mayor Fortin.
This is Chard Development’s fifth residential project in the City of Victoria and when asked if buyers’ expectations have changed over the past five years, Chard Development President Dave Chard stated that buyers today are looking for quality finishing, ample outdoor space and most importantly, livable floor plans.
Duet is an ideal development for first time home buyers, families, and down-sizers as it offers 48 floor plan options with prices starting as low as $219,000. Who says that condo living means that you have to give up on outdoor space? Duet’s design includes a beautifully landscaped courtyard and a common area rooftop patio.
For buyers waiting to buy until the new sales tax laws come into affect April 1, 2013 there’s no need. Duet buyers will only be paying GST on top of the purchase price from here on out.
Whether you’ve been looking for a while or are new to the market, Duet is a development you’ll want to check out offering great value, quality design and a superb location on the edge of town in the heat of James Bay.
