Condominium Project Approved for Oak Bay

After more than four years in the design and planning phases, the mixed-use building proposed for the corner of Oak Bay and Foul Bay has passed the public hearing held by the City of Victoria with unanimous support by city council.
Village Walk is set to break ground in Spring of 2013, with completion estimated for early 2014.
Proposed by Victoria-based developer, Abstract Developments, the four-story mixed-use building planned for the site located at 1969 Oak Bay Avenue will contain 22 condo residences ranging between 860 and 1,500 sq. ft., set above 5,800 sq. ft. of commercial space designed for office and retail. 36 parking stalls and 42 spaces for bicycles will be available for residents and visitors of the building. The Oak Bay Avenue site currently houses Abstract Developments’ offices and residential rental units, which will be voluntarily relocated elsewhere in the city as part of the company’s development proposal, was acquired by Mike Miller, President and Founder of Abstract Developments in 2008. “We always knew from the time we first acquired the land that this development would be one of our company’s most exciting projects for the local community. After years of planning, collaboration and work with councils in both surrounding municipalities, we are thrilled to receive so much positive support.” said Miller. The building, aptly-named Village Walk, was designed by award-winning architect Franc D’Ambrosio of D’Ambrosio architecture + urbanism, designer of several renowned residential and commercial buildings including The Atrium, Sayward Hill and Richmond Gate, as well as the Oak Bay Bikes and Home Hardware stores on Oak Bay Avenue. Village Walk has a number of sustainable design features including a rain garden, allowing for the capture of storm water into the surrounding landscaping. The building will be built to Build Green® Standard and third-party certified for energy efficiency and environmental responsibility through the use of resource-efficient, environmentally-friendly, construction practices and products.
